Expansive - a coworking space in a historic building in downtown Seattle

Problem
After the pandemic, occupancy was low and the space felt more like a collection of offices than a connected community. Members included freelancers, hybrid teams, and small companies who came in to work but had few reasons to engage with the space beyond their desks. Leadership was looking for someone to strengthen the member experience, increase visibility, and help the space feel more active and welcoming. While the space had strong potential, there was limited brand presence, low engagement, and almost no sense of connection among members. Communication systems were minimal, operations were largely manual, and there was little coordination between sales, marketing, and on-site teams. Opportunities for networking, partnerships, and storytelling existed, but they weren’t being activated. Leadership needed someone to strengthen the community, improve day-to-day operations, and help make the space feel alive again.
Solution
I approached the role by strengthening both the brand experience and the operational foundation behind it. I introduced community campaigns, partnerships, and events that gave members more reasons to engage with the space and each other, while working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer to bring more consistency to how the brand showed up across physical and digital touchpoints. At the same time, I built onboarding, vendor, and budget systems in Notion to bring more structure and transparency to daily operations, created visual tools to highlight available offices and growth opportunities, and connected community managers across the country through a shared communication channel to exchange ideas and improve the member experience.
Beyond operations: building connection
A big part of this role was listening. I spent time understanding what members needed, what was missing, and how the space could better support them. That, led to initiatives like creating a networking slack channel for members to connect professionally, organizing targeted workshops, and building partnerships with local organizations to make the space feel more integrated into the neighborhood.
Over time, the environment shifted from a place where people simply worked to a place where people felt more connected to the space, to each other, and to the broader community around them.
